The American Horse design merges the image of a rearing
horse with flowing lines of waving Stars and Stripes. The expression of
the work conveys positive motion, a daring and proud feeling.
In this largely
two-dimensional version of the flag, the black lines are painted on thick white
padded double layer cloth. The red and blue paint cover key areas between the
heavy black lines. Then the edges between line and color are stitched through,
creating a dimensional effect because of the padded fill which makes the
colored areas as well as the lines raised above the surface. The blue and red
paint is dimensional as well.
Painting on double layered padded cotton, 4
feet by 4 feet in size.
