Maria Talasz operates as an independent artist from the Equilux studio in Eagle River, Alaska. Her work often goes beyond two dimensions, is free from the confines of any frame, and often includes movement through careful design and assembly. Her favorite medium is wood, painted in gouache and oil paints. Nearly all subjects are coming directly from nature in Alaska, with fireweed and large wildlife featuring in many of her works.

Originally from the Netherlands, Maria started creating her sculpted paintings in 1989. She is self-taught, with technical skills complemented through painting and woodworking workshops with David Mollett in Alaska, and sculpture at the Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina. Most works are made in commission and are in private collections.

Horses have played an important role in her life from a very early age and continue to be a big part of her work today. Recently in November her work was accepted and exhibited in the 2022 Fall Juried Exhibition at the American Academy of Equine Art, in South Carolina.
